From the Pastor's Pen

There is no greater responsibility than preaching the Word of God.  Across our great country, men of God are lifting their voices in warning our nation to turn back to God.  America is not having revival.  If anything, we are having a revival of wickedness and a tremendous increase in paganism.  We are perhaps, for the first time in our modern history, dealing with inidividuals who have absolutely no religious background at all.  It falls to those who will remain faithful to the Bible to reach this generation with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The problems of humanity will not be solved by government.  Our resource for hope and help cannot be the halls of Congress nor the resident of the White House.  Men must find their help in the Lord.  " I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.  My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.  He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber." (Psalm 121 1-3)  As best I can tell, the only way that we will ever do that is by the means of biblical preaching.  Missionaries are doing the best possible good by pointing the nations of the world to Christ.  It is a grave responsibility to have the duty and the privilege to preach as "as a dying man to dying men."

If you have a faithful pastor who is preaching the Word of God to you, you are very blessed.  But, if you find yourself without a pastor, without a spiritual guide to help you, please do not hesitate to contact us here at First Baptist Church of Atoka.  My goal is not to make you a Baptist, but to point you to Christ.  I am unashamed of my spiritual heritage.  The name Baptist is not a reproach to me.  However, it is not what makes heaven my home.  That promise, that hope, that power is in Christ alone.  Have you trusted Him?  If not do so today.

"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.  For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures...."  1 Corinthians 15:1-4

"But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.  For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed."  Romans 10:9-11
